Australia’s Best sites?

With the 14th AIMIA Awards being held tonight, interactive media’s glitterati are dusting off their best frocks and suits to recognize and reward the best in the industry. With 99 finalists being judged in 24 different categories, we are sure there are going to be some very sore heads being nursed in the morning!

In the March edition of the magazine, Naomi Hulbert, editor of Nett, investigated a couple of the finalists in the Best Non-profit or Government category to see what they had on offer.
Who On Earth Cares (www.whoonearthcares.com) is encouraging community members to combat climate change by harnessing the wonderful technology of Google Maps. Type in your suburb to see how your neighbours feel about climate change and what action they are taking to reduce their footprint on the earth. There are testimonials from Australian celebrities such Cate Blanchett and Gina Reily (Kim from Kath & Kim) about what action they are taking.

Another finalist is Raising Children, a one-stop-shop parenting help website (www.raisingchildren.net.au) that has information on everything you can think of. With an easy-to-navigate home page and lots of pictures of very cute babies and kids, this site takes you through everything from how to put on nappies, bonding with your baby and childhood obesity. And if you have forgotten the words to popular kids’ songs such as Incy Wincy Spider and Twinkle Twinkle, now you can look up the words in the ‘Baby Karaoke’ section and lull your kids to sleep.

While Nett is particularly interested in seeing who will win in Best Corporate or Business to Business, Best Non-profit or Government and Best Online Retail, we wish good luck to all the finalists. Enjoy your cocktails and canapés and winners, remember to take Panadol before you go to bed.
