Kick Start Diary: Month 4
29 June 2010
Mums on the Go™
officially launched on May 9th 2010. We were thrilled to
see what we have worked so hard to create come to life and to finally be able to share it with other mums. We made a little video
to capture the story of how we came to create Mums on the Go.
The launch of the site felt a little like giving birth to a baby ... exciting, new and a little daunting. Now we have entered "new parent" stage of this site ... when you actually realise how much work is involved, you don't always know the answers and you realise there is no turning back now. Just like becoming a new parent you know that some days are a joy, some days are not but loving this "baby" will always ensure things work out.
So what has evolved since the Mums on the Go launched?
- We have been adding new businesses to our directory
every
week - there are now more than 200 businesses listed! We love receiving suggestions
from mums and businesses. - We have been expanding our article sections with 2 new articles a week ... most popular this month has been Honeymoon Vaginas
and 5 Ways to Tone up
- We have been reviewing the way the directory search works after receiving feedback it was harder to navigate than we would like. It was a little hard to accept that something we had worked so hard on wasn’t “perfect”. We are continuing to refine this process ... we want this to be really easy to use as it is the core of our site.
- We have become obsessed by Google Analytics! We are thrilled with the stats of our first month (2000+ unique visits) but can see we have a lot of work ahead to sustain and grow these figures. We also need to look at how to create a custom report within Google Analytics to pull out the most useful information to make it easier to track and measure (and prevent us getting distracted by interesting but not as relevant data!) … I know this can be done but learning yet another new thing is beyond my brain this week – LOL
We are learning that everything moves more slowly than we would like and that we have to be willing to walk before we run. We also need to ensure we are focused on the most important things for building this business. We have so many ideas to action but as two mums juggling a new business and our children we can’t do it all this very second … even if we want to!
On a personal note I am moving to Melbourne in July, which creates a few new challenges for us but also some wonderful opportunities. Lucky for me Melbourne will be the next city we launch in our directory … I look forward to lots of exploring. I
also shared with our community that I an expecting another baby towards the end of the year inspiring this blog post
about the challenges that creates for me as a businesswoman and mother.
I am enjoying the fact that we are on less of a roller-coaster ride since we have launched. It now feels like we training for a long distance event where commitment, perseverance, a good support team, and creative cross training will be important to our success!
