Top 5 Leadership blogs
It may be tempting to look at the management hierarchy in your business as a strictly linear thing-a command starts at the top and works it's way down to whoever is meant to carry it out.

The truth is that management dynamics are more complex than top to bottom.

Your staff look up to you for cues and direction. You can tell them what to do until you're blue in the face, but if you don't establish yourself as a strong leader, you'll find problems in the way your company operates.

It's vital for you, as a small business owner, to be a perceptive and dynamic manager, capable of leading your employees with more than just orders. Given this, it's strange that there aren't many really strong leadership blogs online to provide inspiration for managers and business owners who are struggling with staff dynamics.

So, here are a few that Nett was particularly impressed with:

Leadership Now

Michael McKinney has a knack for coming up with posts that are both inventive and informative. This blogexternal link isn't too preachy, venturing beyond management allegories and advice and into trends and book reviews. Well worth a weekly visit.

Social Entrepreneurship & Tworque

These blogs both have a rather pointed political agenda.

The firstexternal link is maintained by change.org, a portal that aims to address social and environmental problems like education, health care and economic equality on a global scale.

Thankfully, this isn't your traditional leadership blog, filled with aimlessly shortened sentences and wide-open, generalised statements about inspiration. Change really have the knack of identifying a thing that needs to be addressed and profiling it in such a way that you feel as though you can contribute. For this reason, the blog is not only a good one to read, but it also sets a sound example of how to inspire people.

Similar to Social Entrepreneurship, the big difference with Tworqueexternal link is that it's based in India, and focuses particularly on leadership and development in the poorer parts of the world. Once again, admirable for the effort being made to set an example and show people what can be done. This is a vital quality in any leader.

Employee Engagement

Out of all the cheesy ‘empty inspiration' blogs that American managers feel compelled to write, comes one created by David Zingerexternal link. Although Zinger is prone to distasteful neologisms and the occasional garish acronym, his blog, Employee Engagement, is actually really good for straight-forward advice on motivating people. It's not aggressive and it doesn't generalise-it just provides pragmatic perspectives on encouraging staff to work.

Time Leadership

Jim Estillexternal link started a computer distribution company in 1979, which was sold to IT supply chain SYNNEX in 2004. Estill remained CEO of that company until mid-2009, and now claims to be taking a short break, which gives him plenty of time to share his leadership expertise on his assiduously maintained blog. The time put into this blog is the real value of it. Estill is turning most of his spare time to studying management techniques and attending seminars, and he blogs about what he learns. You could almost view this one as the blog you read when you don't have time to attend management conferences yourself. #
