Innovation centre launches ‘Dragon’s Den’-style entrepreneur competition

The Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast (ICSC) is launching a competition inspired by the television show Dragon’s Den, with entrepreneurs and students invited to make a pitch for $15,000 in prizes.

Entries will be whittled down until 10 finalists are chosen, and they will present to a panel of judges and a live audience. The ICSC is run by the University of the Sunshine Coast, and has been up and running since 2002.

“In these economically challenging times, entrepreneurs have to do more work to gain recognition and attract investment in the increasingly competitive environment, which is why opportunities like this are important,” said Mark Paddenburg, CEO of the ICSC.

The prizes come in the form of a $2,000 MacBook Air Laptop, $1,000 in cash, as well as business service packages from a number of consultant and advisory organisations.

“Here at the innovation centre, we work closely with entrepreneurs through our business development program, offering advice and a wide range of networking opportunities,” Paddenburg added.

“We are proud of the accomplishments the innovation centre has achieved in its first ten years and I am expecting the next ten to be even better.”

Applicants need to submit a form or a YouTube clip before Tuesday 17 April, and be able to present on Thursday 3 May if they make the top 10.
